Fans of the well-known condiment HP Sauce are browned-off with a new recipe for the product.
The brown sauce (pictured) has a revised recipe in order to reduce the amount of salt in the sauce from 2.1g to 1.3g per 100g. The new recipe reduces the total amount of salt content to less than 38%.
However, the new recipe is proving to be something of a turn-off with fans of the sauce including the famous chef Marco Pierre White. White, a Michelin starred chef, says he was brought up on HP Sauce and is reported as saying the new sauce tastes “dodgy and disgusting.”
Heinz, owners of the brand since 2005, are giving way to pressure from the government who want food manufacturers to reduce the amount of salt used in their products.
